Hi, I'm Alex - the endurance athlete and nutrition researcher behind Gatebreak Endurance.

After over a decade as a software engineer building systems for millions of users, I discovered that the analytical and coaching approaches used in designing systems and mentoring developers translate directly to endurance performance. What started with curiosity about persistence hunting and the metabolic strategies of the Tarahumara has evolved into serious academic study of sports nutrition and exercise physiology.

I take "gatebreaking" to heart. While training for ultramarathons, I'm pursuing graduate-level education in sports nutrition through intensive self-study—using the same textbooks and research that inform registered dietitians and sports scientists. This combination of technical background, racing experience, and deep nutritional knowledge allows me to translate complex research into practical strategies.

My approach is data-driven but grounded in real experience. I conduct 'n=1' self-studies to test protocols on myself first, whether it's fueling strategies for long trail runs or recovery nutrition after intense training blocks.
